Summary

942 coins: 1 aureus (Caracalla) mounted in a necklace, 939 silver coins, denarii and antoniniani: Vespasian to Philip I, and 2 bronze coins (missing today). The hoard comprised gold (600 g) as well and silver jewellery (400 g), a shallow silver dish and a silver salt box.

It was first discovered in July 1909 and sold by the finder to a tradesman, Athanase Bankov. Initially, the finder offered false information on the findspot, 3 km eastward of Nikolaevo at the spot called Sanra. Later, he confessed that there was a spot called Ravnichte (the field), 1 km eastward of Nikolaevo, on the road to Slatina, while digging his vineyard. He sold the gold and silver jewelry, 15 silver coins, and only 2 bronze coins to the tradesman. In October 1910, the finder sold the following items to the National Museum: the silver saltshaker statuette, the silver patera, a silver bracelet, and 918 silver coins. The hoard entered the National Museum in July and October 1909. The hoard had been found prior to that date by a farmer from the village of Nikolaevo.
