Silver ring
Intaglio: h. max. 14 mm; l. 12 mm; thickness: about 5 mm.
Saint Boil, no. 80-10.
Dating: 3rd century AD
Carnelian intaglio with flat face and beveled edges, set with a silver ring. On the reverse, remains of the fixing paste. The ring itself is missing, but the fact that the stone is set with a cut-off ring, from where it emerges in high relief can date the type of ring to the third century AD.
The motive seems to be that of Fortuna, very often, sitting on a throne, holding a rudder in her left hand. Usually the goddess holds a cornucopia with the other hand, but here the whole area of the left arm is incomprehensible and does not allow to identify the attribute. The bust is long and disproportionate compared to the very short left leg.
