Summary

During the construction of the protestant Alumneum (Gesandtstraße) in 1900, remains of a hypocaust system were found. Within the debris a group of 8 coins - 7 aurei and 1 denarius - were recovered, ranging from Nero to Antoninus Pius. They might have been stored in a wooden box or leather bag. The hoard's deposition is conjectured to have been linked to the Marcomannic Wars.

Site comment

Found close together above the remains of a hypocaust system, in a destruction layer. Castra Regina was a fortified military camp, but the hoard was found in the civil settlement that developed close by.
