Summary

The hoard comprised 16 silver coins from the First Jewish Revolt (AD 66-72) and was found close to a ceramic oil lamp which may have acted as a marker for the hoard. The hoard contained 10 shekels of the First Jewish Revolt: 3 Year One, 3 Year Two, 3 Year Three, and 1 Year Five; 1 half-shekel of Year One, 3 half-shekels of Year 2; 1 Tyrian Shekel (AD 52/3); 1 Antiochene tetradrachm.

Site comment

The coins were found near a Herodian oil lamp, which Spijkerman believed marked the place of the hoard. Spijkerman suggested that the hoard was concealed in July or August AD 70. The hoard was discovered on the slope of the Mount of Olives (modern Dominus Flevit Church).
