Summary

The hoard was found at the summit of Puy-de-Dôme amongst sherds of one or more ceramic vessels. It comprised approximately 800 bronze coins dating to the first century AD. Giard studied 212 coins, which equated to approximately one quarter of the hoard. These coins ranged in date from Augustus to Titus. The earliest coins was an as of Augustus (C. Asinius Gallus) struck in 14 BC. Numerous coins were counter-marked. TAF suggests that these were offerings (stips) to a mountain deity, which were later gathered together in a vessel.
