COLONIA AELIA MVRSA Roman military settlement from the first half of the first century under the Julio-Claudian dynasty. Numerous Roman military auxiliary units resided here, such as Ala II Hispaniorum Aravacorum, replaced under the Flavi with the cohors II Alpinorum equitata, which remained here until Trajan. Mursa became a Roman colony after the conquest of Dacia, at the time of Emperor Hadrian. It was also an important center of the Flavia Pannonica fleet. Two important battles took place nearby: the first in AD 260 between Aureolus and Ingenus, the second between Costantius II and Magnenzio in AD 351. (Wikipedia/ Mursa)
