Fetching coin data
a black burnished ware vessel with a base diameter of about 82mm, a clearly defined foot ring and a maximum surviving girth of 170mm at 80mm above the base. There were traces of the lower part of a panel of incised obtuse-angled lattice starting at about 40mm above the base. The interior of the vessel was heavily wiped leaving clear smoothing marks sweeping up from the base. The flaring profile and the position of the lattice band do not seem to conform to the characteristics of an everted rim jar, so perhaps the fragments are from a globular jar (Type 18) or a handled flagon (Type 29)1. The vessel appears to have been of greater capacity than necessary for a hoard of around 500 coins.
