Summary

The original number of coins in the hoard is not known. The details regarding this hoard are unclear. Dr. Gardner's collection includes pieces which belong to it, as well as a number of others whose attribution is less certain. The first group shows traces of a mid-green corrosion product, while the second group is either free of such corrosion or has only the slightest stain. The antoninianus of Gordian III could be an intruder. With the coins is a small piece of bronze strip. 16 coins, 15 denarii and 1 antoninianus (radiate): Vespasian - Severus Alexander.

It measures 2.05 x 0.9 cm and c. 0.08 cm thick. The upper side is smooth, and there are traces on both sides of a 'tinned' finish. The strip was wrapped up in two pieces of paper: the inner one labelled '10', the other 'From Bodfari' and 'Bodfari'.
