Summary

About 800 denarii (Mark Antony to Caracalla) and fragments of a possible ceramic container found by workmen digging a ditch near Bron-y-Berllan farm. The original size of the find is uncertain; Davies (1929) records that the workmen who made the find pocketed an unknown number of coins, and that the remainder of the hoard was split between the British Museum (18 coins) and the Verney family of Bodelwyddan Castle, Anglesey. The size and condition of the hoard cannot be accounted for until 1918, when only 333 coins were transferred from Bodelwyddan to the Bangor museum. Robertson's examinations of the hoard in 1937 and 1948 identified 350 coins split between Bangor and the British Museum; the whereabouts of the remainder are unknown.
