Summary

10 copper-alloy Roman coins and two iron objects (photo attached). The coins are in poor condition and quite accreted, so it's difficult to make out the surface details, but they're likely to be later Roman given their size. One appears to be perforated, so it may have been reused. One of the iron objects is socketed with a single nail hole and would have been hafted – probably an agricultural implement of some kind – but needs an x-ray to get a clearer view. The other iron object is a nail.

Associated features

The coins and iron objects were deliberately deposited within a small pit in an area where several other pits and boundary ditches dating to the late Iron Age and Roman period were also located. They were presumably placed in the pit for ‘safe keeping’ in a period of uncertainty (e.g., war, ‘political’ unrest, etc.) with the intention of being retrieved at some point.
