Summary

A hoard of 70 siliquae still contained within a ceramic vessel was found during metal detecting at the site of the discovery of the Wickwar 2021 hoard [CHRE 21726]. The vessel was about 2 m away from the first find and recovered by the same metal detector users who have been working with archaeologists to investigate the findspot, now interpreted as a Roman pottery production site. It was in pastureland about 10 cm deep. The 70 coins inside the pot were well-preserved. The coins listed span the period AD 355–402, ending, as is common with hoards of this date, with siliquae of Arcadius and Honorius dated to AD 395–402. Many of the coins have been clipped to varying degrees, although generally not heavily compared to many hoards with this terminal date. The total weight in silver of the late Roman coins submitted is 115 g.
