Summary
During the first phase of the Oedenburg sanctuary, between the wooden structures B1 and D1, there is an open space free of any construction, which will remain so until the end of the site's activity. The hypothesis of a sacred grove planted with elms has been suggested. In this particular area, located at the centre of the sacred space, a kind of depression about 2 meters in diameter (S.180) was cleared. In this basin arranged in front of temple D1, the remains of several amphorae were discovered. Two amphora bottoms were complete, and two others were fragmentary. The presence of wall and neck fragments indicates that the amphorae were originally complete. Next to these four bottoms in place, there were five cavities in which shards of different amphorae were collected. This suggests that these five cavities are negatives, meaning they correspond to amphorae that are missing. Bottoms 1 to 7 belong to phase 1, while bottoms 8 and 9, located just outside the arranged basin, belong to the next phase (ca. 80-120). In six of these amphora bottoms, which include both those that are in place and those that are missing (nos. 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, and 8), 31 Roman coins were discovered. 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, and 8), 31 Roman coins were discovered.
