Fetching coin data
The coins were found within an almost complete base of a reduced coarseware jar, possibly black-burnished ware of Poole/Wareham manufacture, but the exterior was too dirty to ascertain if there was any decoration. The vessel had a flat base c. 78 mm in diameter and sloped outwards to the shoulders with a surviving height of about 127 mm. No rim survived. The fabric is grey and sandy with sparse, coarse flint inclusions and is quite crumbly. Among the body sherds was one with the remains of a lug or possible pot mend. The angle of the shoulder and remaining neck is suggestive of a flagon rather than a jar, and, indeed, a fragment of a handle was recovered from above the in situ part of the vessel. Associated with the hoard was a copper alloy ring of circular-sectioned wire, with overlapping, broken terminals. This is possibly a finger ring or earring but not diagnostic of date. The oval hoop has a maximum diameter of 20.8 mm, a maximum diameter of 18.5 mm, a thickness of 1.8 mm, and weighs 0.68 g.
