Summary

Labourers were trenching some land for planting on the Scot Hall Farm; one of them struck his pickaxe into the side of an earthen pot, from which fell about 18 or 20 pieces of coin. These were Roman, a few of them silver, the rest brass; they were greatly corroded, and the legends were difficult to make out, and none of them were ascertained. A smaller pot was found near, broken in pieces, and contained nothing. The soil in which these were found was of a very hard nature, and the stratum which immediately covered them was about 3 inches thick, of a blackish colour, and so hard that the pickaxe could with difficulty break through it. Undated.
