Summary

Mr. G.H. Jones of Hordley Grange near Ellesmere noticed a number of coins spread on the surface of one of his fields ploughed some weeks previously. Further searches produced a total of 362 Roman coins from the third century AD and the fragments of the earthenware pot that contained them. The total number of coins included 7 denarii and 355 antoniniani (radiates). Antoninus Pius - Probus. The exact findspot was in "Field No. 70, O.S. 25 inch. (1926)".

A small black burnished tankard with a bead rim and decorated with a narrow zone of obtuse-angled latticing above which is a curved line shaped like an eyebrow and from which there are diagonal scored lines. The pot is 4 5/8" high, and 3 7/8" wide, with one handle.
