Site comment

The excavation area, measuring approximately 5,400 m², lies on the right bank of the River Unstrut within a shallow meander. Owing to this favourable location, archaeological sites ranging from the La Tène period through the Roman Imperial period to the Early Middle Ages have been identified in the surrounding area.
Associated features

he hoard was discovered between two settlement complexes—one Early Medieval and the other dating to the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD. Within an area of approximately 15–20 m² and only a few centimetres below the surface.
