Summary
Two lots of the same hoard found at years apart.
The first lot, 1,084 antoniniani (radiates), was found by workmen on the Bovis Homes building site when a mechanical digger was excavating a trench.
Mr D.B. Stowe discovered the second lot, 110 antoniniani (radiates), on a housing estate at Llanedeyrn, on the north-eastern outskirts of Cardiff. They were recovered over a period of a month during the first half of 1981 from areas of open ground close to the find-spot of the first lot. The immediate area around the find-spot was thoroughly searched, and it was thought that most of the hoarded coins had been recovered. However, it would now appear that some coins were removed, probably by the mechanical digger, with soil that was subsequently used in landscaping on the housing estate.
The lot of 1,084 antoniniani (radiates) (March 1975):
Volusian 1, Valerian I 11, Gallienus 99, Salonina 25, Valerian II 3, Postumus 158, Laelianus 2, Marius 6, Victorinus 375, Claudius II 110, Quintillus 7, Tetricus I 211, Tetricus II 70, Aurelian 3.
The lot of 110 antoniniani (radiates) (year 1981): Mariniana (Diva) 1, Gallienus 15, Salonina 1, Postumus 2, Marius 1, Victorinus 39, Claudius II 16, Quintillus 1, Tetricus I 26, Tetricus II 8, uncertain 3.
