Summary
The first part of the find was discovered on 1st May, 1942, at a spot some two yards northwest of Choseley Farm, near Brancaster. The coins had been contained in an earthenware pot, which came to light during harrowing operations in which the pot was broken.
The second find was in the same field as the first, but its exact location is unknown. It is estimated that there were some 300–350 coins in the earlier find, of which the present whereabouts of 171 coins are now known. The second find is estimated to have contained some 600 coins, but, unfortunately, the whereabouts of only 306 is known.
Robertson treats these as one hoard. As there was no vessel reported with the second hoard and the composition of both hoards was very similar, it does seem possible that the second find was an unrecovered part of the first one, though the possibility must remain that there are two hoards.
