Summary

Large hoard of denarii found in two ceramic vessels (c. 10 kg). The finder sold the contents of one pot to the local squire, A. Grobicki, and the other to the State Archaeological Museum in Warsaw. Denarii from Nero to Septimius Severus (AD 202). Based on the catalog from TIR M 34, pp. 157-180, it contained 3,170 silver coins: 3,169 denarii, 1 drachm: Nero - Septimius Severus (Caracalla (Augustus)) (AD 202).

"Mr. Jan Mularski in the spring of 1942, while digging a hole for the foundations of a cow-shed on a slope on the right bank of the River Kamienna, 15 meters south of the statue of Christ which is close beside his house, he came upon a grey-brown (?) clay vessel containing 3 to 4 kg of silver coins, at a depth of about 0.3 meters. Three weeks later, continuing his work on the foundations, Jan Mularski came upon another pot, similar in shape and size to the first, and containing the same quantity of silver coins. This vessel was found about 1 meter from the previous one, at the same depth. Both vessels got broken and the pieces were thrown away. Mularski kept the coins from the second pot “for one winter", after which he sold them through the agency of a local peasant to a worker from the museum in Starachowice, who “came to the site together with experts from Warsaw".
