Summary

In the southwest angle of room 13 in House VI S, a large hoard of coins was found. The number is between seven and eight thousand, and they range in date from Gallienus to Honorius, AD 253 to AD 423. Of the two or three thousand which have been examined, more than one-third belong to the reigns of Theodosius I and his sons. Nearly all are the so-called minimi, copper coins of fourth brass size. They are mostly in very poor condition, having been badly burnt, and of about one-third it is impossible to make out the reigns to which they belonged. With this hoard was found an iron hoop. From its shape it is clearly the hoop of a bucket, and a little wood still adheres to it. It is quite possible that the coins had been placed in the bucket for concealment.
