Bronze bracelet (armilla)
A fragment of a Roman copper alloy wide-cuff bracelet, likely from a penannular design and possibly a military armilla, dates to around AD 43-100. The fragment, which belongs to Crummy's (2005) Group A, is rectangular in shape, with a curved profile, abraded edges, and breaks at either end. The latter are patinated but relatively fresh. The external face of the bracelet is decorated with a central, incised, corded band, aligned longitudinally. There is an indication of a ridge running along a more complete edge.
The bracelet fragment is possibly a military armilla, dating to AD 43-100, but as this does not seem to fit with the dating of the coins, the bracelet may have been a curated artefact which had been kept for a significant period of time and then buried at the same time as the coin hoard.
