Bronze vessel
Comment
The vessel is a large bronze container with a pouring spout and two handles. The rim is bent obliquely outwards, the neck widens towards the shoulder, and the shoulder is pronounced. The body of the vessel is bulbous. The ends of the two solid handles were hammered flat and attached to the body with two rivets each. The base of the vessel is flat.
The vessel was manufactured from two thick bronze sheets: the lower part was shaped from a single sheet, while the two ends of the sheet forming the upper part were folded over one another and riveted together at the back. The joint between the upper and lower parts is serrated and soldered.
The vessel was severely damaged by the excavating machine: its originally circular pouring opening became oval, its body was flattened and torn apart along the joint, and only the handle continued to hold the body together. The lower part was cut through in several places.
At the time of discovery, the vessel was covered with patina, and a layer of soot was present on its base. During restoration, the vessel was returned approximately to its original shape and reinforced internally with bronze strips.
