Ceramic vessel
Comment
36 fragments of a bell-mouthed, wheel-thrown vessel of Derbyshire Greyware. The fabric is extremely hard and gritty, with a coarse surface with a characteristic 'pimpled' texture. This is due to the use of unrefined local clay. Interior surfaces show ridges from wheel-throwing. Base shows impressions of straw from stacking in kiln. From the curvature of the largest rimsherds, it is possible to estimate the circumference of the mouth of the vessel as 39.75 cm.
