Ceramic vessel
Comment
The jar is a medium-hard fired, grey, coarse ware vessel with a maximum diameter of 180 mm, a base diameter of 85 mm, and an estimated height of about 200 mm; however, the upper body and rim are missing. The vessel was wheel-made with the wall varying in thickness between 3 and 4 mm at the girth. Externally, an 80 mm wide band of faint, diagonal right-to-left burnished strokes decorated the unburnished girth. Internally the surface retained some deposits of copper-alloy corrosion products. The plough had clearly caused severe damage and spread to the top of the vessel. Some of the sherds from this upper part were recovered in a very weathered condition, with all surfaces lost, but they could still be incorporated into the reassembled jar.
