Two earthen vessels
Comment
One vessel is a small, rouletted, pentice-moulded beaker, 4 3/8 in. high, in durable drab ware with a burnished grey surface. The vessel is of a well-known late Roman type, frequently found in the fourth century. The rouletting round the body and on the shoulder, which serves the purpose of assisting grip, is of the late type, as is the small base, only 1ΒΌ in. in diameter. The vessel is, perhaps, rather squatter than those usually found in the fourth century, to the first half of which century I should have attributed it on typological grounds had it not contained third-century coins.
Only fragments of the other vessel survive.
