Ceramic vessel

Twenty six large to tiny sherds from a single wheel made jar made from a hard grey ware fabric were recovered with the hoard. The sherds weigh 570 gm (Mean Sherd Weight 21.9 gm). These sherds represent the entire base and lower vessel wall of a jar. A number of other sherds come from the upper wall and rim of the same vessel (?). The lower wall of the vessel rises at a relatively shallow angle from a simple flat base (base diameter 93 mm). The base and lower wall has
areas of green staining on the inside where the corroding coins have touched the pot's sides and floor. The vessel was
made from a grey ware fabric with some oxidised red margins in places. Grey wares are a very common type of coarse
pottery made in many different places across Roman Britain throughout Roman period.
