Jar
Comment
The container was a medium-hard fired, grey, coarse ware jar, maximum diameter 180mm, base diameter 85mm, and an estimated height of about 200mm, the upper body aud rim being missing. The vessel was wheel-made with the wall varying in thickness between 3-4mm at the girth. Externally, an 80mm wide band of faint, diagonal right to left burnished strokes decorated the unburnished girth. Internally the surface retained
some deposits of copper-alloy corrosion products. The top of the vessel had clearly been severely damaged and spread by the plough. Some of the sherds from this upper part were recovered in a very weathered condition with all surface lost but could still be incorporated into the reassembled jar.
